Elizabethan England was a time of tremendous growth and hardship for many. A great separation between rich and poor. No phones, internet or instant news. Town criers shared the latest along with street gossip. A time of open sewers and plagues with no cures. A desperate need for entertainment
His Work
The theater was a place to seek amusement for royalty, the expanding middle classes and poor alike. Shakespeare’s plays and other works paved the way for modern theater. The themes he wrote on covered the depth and breadth of society in his time that still resonate today
